“You are wrong. I will not serve you.”

I read Graham MacKintosh’s Into a Desert Place back in 2008, and this excerpt has been bouncing around my head ever since:

Maybe God gives us such an unclear, contradictory message—an eye for an eye and turn the other cheek—so that we reveal what is really in our hearts by the doctrines we adhere to and cherish… Maybe the saved are those that say to the God which is being erroneously presented to us, “You are wrong. I will not serve you.”
